This qualitative study examines how potential perpetrators of intimate partner surveillance (IPS) use personal narratives on online forums to justify and legitimize their abusive behaviors. By analyzing 556 stories from publicly accessible forums discussing sexual infidelity, the research identifies common narrative structures, justifications for abuse, and outcomes. A four-stage framework is developed to describe the evolution of a perpetrator's approach to IPS, offering insights into where interventions might be applied to prevent or deescalate abuse.
