This study examines how orthognathic patients utilize online forums to share and discuss information about their treatment. Analyzing 1,912 posts from a public discussion forum through thematic analysis revealed five main themes: reasons for treatment, presurgery and postsurgery stages, surgical complications, expected vs. actual treatment outcomes, and information-seeking behaviors. The findings highlight that patients often seek additional support and information online, indicating a potential gap in the information provided by healthcare professionals. The study suggests that clinicians should guide patients to reliable online resources.
