This chapter explores the evolution of the term "Internet trolling" from its original meaning in the 1990s to its contemporary usage, which involves posting provocative or offensive messages to harm others. It distinguishes between classical trolling and anonymous trolling, categorizing the former as "trolling for the Lolz" and the latter as "trolling for the Lulz." Using document and genre analysis, the chapter identifies common manifestations of anonymous trolling across various online platforms and presents a model for understanding the risk of trolling in different online communities.
