As online courses proliferate, the need for faculty development becomes crucial, especially regarding instructor presence in online discussions. This article details the creation and validation of a taxonomy of instructor postings, surveys expectations from experienced instructors and administrators, and compares these with actual feedback in four graduate business courses. The findings offer a valuable tool for enhancing faculty development and clarifying the instructor's role in online discussions.
