This paper explores the phenomenon of citizen users in Finland making significant modifications to heat pumps, surpassing expectations despite the technology's inherent complexity. The study found over a hundred such inventions facilitated by exchanges on user-run Internet forums. These forums create a learning space that enables some users to become inventive, even though most users remain indifferent to specific projects. The findings highlight how the activities of a small group of inventive users are supported and embedded within a broader user base, suggesting implications for climate and energy policy.
