This paper examines the dynamic process of technology appropriation and mediation within stable, self-organized web-based communities. Drawing from two case studies, it identifies characteristics of the appropriation and mediation processes in this context. Findings reveal that technology appropriation within these communities is primarily driven by individual efforts, with successful mediation achieved through making technology understandable and relevant to community members.
