This article delves into the lesser-explored area of knowledge sharing in project-oriented online communities (POCs) with a focus on communication visibility. Utilizing social power theory, it identifies factors influencing knowledge sharing behavior and quality, examining hierarchical distance as a moderator. Findings from data collected from 205 Chinese construction industry project members indicate positive relationships between expert power and knowledge sharing, with hierarchical distance affecting sharing behavior but not knowledge quality. Theoretical and practical implications for enhancing knowledge sharing in POCs are discussed.
