This study introduces the AZDrugMiner system, an analytical framework designed to extract patient-reported adverse drug events (ADEs) from online patient forums like DailyStrength and PatientsLikeMe. Recognizing the limitations of the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS), which often underestimates certain ADEs, the authors demonstrate that their system effectively identifies patient experiences and reports through statistical learning techniques. Evaluated against manually annotated posts, AZDrugMiner shows promising performance and reveals valuable insights into patient-reported ADEs that can enhance drug safety and patient care.
