This study investigates the impact of implementing an internal online community on individual job performance within a geographically dispersed organization. Using data from a large manufacturer, the authors employ a quasi-natural experiment design to analyze the relationship between community usage and sales performance. Their findings suggest a positive correlation between community usage and sales performance, with greater benefits observed for representatives with fewer offline learning opportunities. Additionally, reading posts from nonlocal subunits and posts summarizing multiple selling events are associated with higher sales performance.
