This article addresses the challenge of ensuring students adequately prepare for class by utilizing Course Management Software for online discussions. Instead of traditional methods like surprise quizzes, the author proposes that technology can enhance preparation quality and optimize class time. Students are required to post responses to thought questions on an online forum, which the instructor reviews before class to tailor discussion topics. The article includes a cost-benefit analysis of the assignment and offers alternative formats for educators to adapt the approach to their specific goals.
