This study examined two UK online forums designed to support individuals with gambling problems and those affected by them. Using content analysis of forum posts, online interviews, and surveys, the study found that the forums helped users understand and cope with gambling issues. Benefits included lack of alternative support, ease of access, additional support, insight from others, help in resisting urges, and perceived anonymity. The forums were particularly popular with online gamblers and showed higher female participation, with more females reporting that the forums helped them cope better.
