This study examines the impact of discussions about distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks on the number of victims in online hacker forums. Findings indicate that increased discussion correlates with a decrease in DDoS attack victims, with a 1% rise in discussion reducing attacks by up to 0.122%. Notably, while discussions about botnets can increase attacks, subsequent discussions tend to mitigate them, suggesting a dual-use nature of hacker forum discourse.
