This article introduces recursive summarization, a workflow implemented in the Wikum prototype, designed to help readers digest large-scale online discussions that can reach tens of thousands of posts. Rather than providing a single summary, Wikum generates a summary tree, allowing users to explore distinct subtopics at varying levels of detail based on their interests. Lab evaluations demonstrate that Wikum enables users to construct summary trees more effectively than a control method, and the summary tree itself aids in identifying and exploring main topics more efficiently than the original discussion format.
