This study explores the mechanisms driving network changes over time by simulating network dynamics within a massive open online course (MOOC) discussion forum. It examines four network effects—homophily, reciprocity, transitivity, and preferential attachment—to understand how relationships form and evolve in the forum. The findings aim to enhance the development of peer-supported learning environments and improve the overall online learning experience in MOOCs.
