Well, as far as I am concerned, I give much preference to community monetization. In fact, all of my communities are monetized. Well, it can be really difficult to make money from your community but if you have a monetized community, it is very likely that it will become self sustaining.

I like single niche forums, that's because I know what to expect there and I do not have to bother with topics that I do not like. I do not want to be in a community where users create posts on almost everything. It will be really difficult to find quality content in these communities.
