Joel, can you please change the Paste Behavior setting to the default (Paste as rich text initially, but allow user to paste as plain text instead.). This board here uses Always paste as plain text, which is a bit of a PITA. I have now 3 or 4 descriptions I changed in my files (example) and I'm not updating them here because I use a lot of links, formatting, etc. It's an unnecessary task to have to format it all again! Thank you. đź‘Ť

This summer, Maybelline took over public transportation in London and New York with giant mascara wands swiping larger-than-life eyelashes at Tube stops and long, purple buses roaring down Broadway. The videos went viral, with people calling them “top notch” and “the best ad[s] ever.” None of it actually happened. The videos were created for Maybelline by CGI artist Ian Padgham as part of his production company, Origiful. Padgham has worked with other brands like Burberry, Gucci, Jacquemus, and Château de CĂ©rons on what he calls “FOOH” (pronounced faux) or fake out-of-home content. Brands like Adidas, Mattel, and Truff have also used CGI to create seemingly…

Invision Community 5: Quickly find the most helpful answers IPS has been building up to this feature from its very first teaser, and we now finally get the first in-depth look at Helpful. Helpful builds upon the prior feature Mark as Solution, and provides a more robust multi-point method for communities to indicate quality responses. Before I do a deeper dive into the video, I think this feature is incredibly important because it speaks to strategy and purpose behind community: This is one feature along a road of many that are geared more and more towards support communities. IPS has been incorporating signals of authority, helpfulness, and expertise…

hi First of all, I would like to thank you for creating an environment like this for developers to connect and share their knowledge. I would like to make a suggestion regarding the forum's width, and if possible, increase it beyond 65 percent. thanks!

Action Alleys is a marketing concept from retail stores: it refer to the aisles that go around the inside of a store. These walkways are stocked with special sales, discount bins, or samples. Action Alleys are high-traffic areas to show off related merchandise, hot buys, and other prominent items as users walk around the store. It works especially well for discounted items because of the salience bias. What are the action alleys of online communities (eg. the guided path around the forum)? What kinds of content would you insert, and what kinds of colorful design or formatting would you apply? Inspired by salience bias.

Was reading your topic and my attention fell on the image that's on the right. Thought it was from a different topic but upon clicking the image, the one from the middle popped up. Two different images, which makes me believe there might be a bug? Not that this is really disruptive but thought I'd let you know. Was

A recent visitor to Invisioneer made this comment in regards to the layout of the forum index: She was gracious and very kind, and expressed surprise at never seeing other kinds of forum views such as fluid forum, which is one of the available views on Invisioneer. https://invisioncommunity.com/news/invision-community/new-fluid-forum-view-r1026/ Fluid forum when it was first announced by IPS, Inc. What is important about her surprise is not the layout of the forum index itself, but the fact that she was a long-time forum user. Her experience as a long-time forum user is so powerful and important because it shows the inertia of the status qu…

Six takeaways from the holiday report by Mailchimp, a company that sent +8 Billion emails from Thanksgiving Day through Giving Tuesday in 2022. They commissioned Edelman DXI for an annual holiday report for marketers with 6 holiday trends for marketers to know: SMS and social media are valuable, but email still reigns supreme. Use email to drive your core message Customers are willing to share their data if it means more personalization. Take advantage of the data you have, ask for the data you need. Even with customer data in hand, many marketers don't have time to utilize it effectively. Use segments and smart tools to deliver more relevant messages…

There's a learning model being adopted by the largest organizations that incorporate education, exposure, and experience. It proposes a learning model of something like: 10% of learning from education and formal instruction 20% of learning from exposure and learning from others. 70% of learning from experience and learning 'on the job' through real-life experiences and tasks While this model works well for job, it's a terrible model when applied to community design: Most communities don't come with a 'manual' or help files anymore. So 10% of formal instruction is gone. The onboarding experience is very individual, so ther…

Since 2003, the chain has seen menu items, ad agencies, and CEOs come and go. Its jingle, however, has been a constant. Although most online communities don't think about music jingles as part of their brand outreach, there are universal elements to the McDonald's jingle that we might want to embrace: its universality, its positivity with its "jolt of joy", and its sheer repetition. There's a bit of behavioral science and psychology that can be applied to success communities, where the purpose of the community is to help users achieve a certain outcome. Can you see any of these apply to your community? Setting a Goal - If your users have a goal, the platform can communicate how far they have to go and therefore motivate users to stay on track Communicate Progress - Progress indicators can help users know exactly where they stand in the course. Studies have shown that progress indicators can increase user focus and enjoyment. Inspired by Jen Clinehens of Choice Hacking

Theres a concept in art called negative space. It's the empty or blank space around the subject, to focus attention on the main subject. Do you think it's necessary to fill up all of the screen space so it's very content dense, or is it important to let your design have some negative space?

One of the great things that made working with third-party apps and plugins was the updatechecker, which automatically notified clients of a new version. They could update their main Invision Community software, and also update your mod. It also meant clients had a valuable reminder to keep renewing. Do you plan to offer the updatechecker on your files? Why or why not?

You're a community manager. Would you rather ... Have an amazing one-of-a-kind theme that really showcases the aesthetics and design of your group, a really good layout, and UIX, with everyday content that users can find anywhere? Or would you rather have amazing and unique content that no one else can match on the default community theme? Great design helps visitors make up their minds in the first few seconds to stay or leave. But great content means those visitors will consistently return.

A (very) brief look at Invision Community 5 This was the opening shot on Invision Community 5, and the video gave us plenty of eye candy even though everything was super fast. IPS highlighted 3 notable features and a hint at a fourth: Drag-and-drop theme editor Dark mode Helpful New 'modern' forum view, which IPS would later reveal to be Forum Feed view But that's not all ... for careful watchers of the video, IPS leaked some surprise changes: The button for "Mark site read" was moved from its current position to the User Menu and renamed to "Mark all content as read". My personal take is that IPS realized most users don't activ…

Introduction Navigating the world of online communities and forums requires skill. Just like becoming a chess grandmaster or a world-renowned violinist, becoming an expert in online interactions demands dedication, time, and, most importantly, deliberate practice. Let’s dive into how anyone can rise to the top in the digital space. Online Communities: The New Chessboard LászlĂł and Klara Polgár, Hungarian educators, showed the world that dedicated training could produce chess prodigies. Similarly, with the right dedication and approach, anyone can stand out and lead in online communities. Delving Deeper into Expertise Benjamin Bloom once said, "It's not about bei…

Introduction Today's online communities and forums are like bustling digital towns, and just like in any physical town, they need effective leaders or administrators to ensure harmony, growth, and a positive experience for all members. But what makes a good online community leader? Drawing inspiration from tried and tested administrative principles in traditional industries, we can define three key skills that every online community administrator should master. 1. Tech Know-How: The Digital Toolkit Today’s virtual spaces are driven by technology. Knowing how the platform works, from its features to its quirks, is essential. Understanding the Platform: Just as a …

Introduction: In online communities, members are often asked to evaluate each other's contributions, similar to how employees give feedback in a corporate environment. However, the world of digital forums and communities presents unique challenges. Let's delve into the tricky terrain of peer appraisal in online spaces. Why It's Hard to Rate Your Online Peers: Online communities, from Reddit forums to gaming guilds, often have systems where users can upvote, downvote, or leave comments on each other's posts. But how easy is it to rate someone you've never met? The Role Paradox: Friend or Critic? Just like in workplaces, online users find it challenging to be both…

Introduction: With the boom of online forums and communities, the dynamics of interaction and communication have transformed. While these platforms aim to foster learning and collaboration, they're often caught in a trap of what we'll term as 'digital defensive reasoning'. This concept, although rooted in organizational behavior, translates seamlessly into the world of online interactions, posing challenges to learning and growth. Understanding Single-Loop and Double-Loop Learning: Online communities, much like organizational setups, often indulge in what's known as 'single-loop learning'. It means reacting to immediate issues without understanding or addre…

Introduction Traditionally, extroverts have been perceived as the ideal leaders due to their charismatic and dominant nature. This conception is deeply rooted in our cultural psyche. However, recent research offers a different perspective, suggesting that introverts can indeed excel as leaders, particularly in specific contexts. Understanding Extroverted Leadership Extroverts, with their outgoing and assertive demeanors, naturally command attention. They are vocal, passionate, and can energize their teams with their enthusiasm. Such traits often make them appear as obvious choices for leadership roles. Their confidence is contagious, and they can rally teams around a…
