Play acting the creepy and horrifying can actually help us get over our fears.

Neurobiological research shows that phobias can improve after reducing the fear sensitization pathway that activates our fight-or-flight. Halloween is, in other words, “mass fear extinction therapy.”

This is very interesting and something I was unaware of. I have always seen Halloween as a fun time to dress up, head out and trick or treat. I always take my kids each year trick or treating and they love it and then we watch ghost-hunting videos on the night on YouTube.

Never in a million years would I have realized that Halloween would be mass fear extinction therapy.
