Default sort order in Marketplace Directory categories

@JoelR,

I suggest you change the default sort order in Marketplace Directory categories from RECENTLY UPDATE to FILE NAME. People will always edit their files to change nothing, just to appear above in the listing.

This happened a lot on IPS.

Thanks for the feedback.  I've thought a lot about this.

My personal take is that if an author goes out of his way and spends his time to edit the file, more power to them.  They deserve to have their file bumped! They're spending time to "advertise."

I will add more widgets to show more files though, to give more opportunity to developers.

Really? You didn’t understand at all! 🤣

Example: I just clicked to edit this: https://invisioncommunity.com/files/file/8889-email-address-confirmation/

Hit save.

What I changed? Absolutely nothing!

My file gone to first position of the category: https://invisioncommunity.com/files/category/165-member-extensions/

Now I have more visibility to my resource.

Pull up a chair and wait. It’s going to be fun.

And ... that's fine.  If you want to take the time to edit the file, even if it's a second to "update your file" to bump it, you deserve to be pushed up!

I want to add that if sort order is changed to File Name, the authors who want to "game" the system will simply rename their files to AAA FileName to appear first.

If you want to appear first, you will find a way to appear first.

All that will happen is one problem is shifted to another problem.

Hope that makes sense.

No, it doesn't at all. Rules are necessary, Joel. Otherwise, this will become a jungle, a pure mess. And it will. Just wait.

I think it should be listed by File Name and without prefix, stuff like (BLA BLA BLA) FILE NAME. It would be fairer to everyone.

So picking a file here, are you saying that someone would change from Hide Link And Code to AAA Hide Link And Code? I don't think someone who takes this seriously would even think something like that.

Showing Recently Updated by default at least gives well meaning authors the chance to present their latest files.

Users can change on the front end, so there is no loss for the end user. This has nothing to do with "latest files". What I'm referring to here is the bad intention of updating files just for the sake of a bump.

Whatever! 👍

Just my 2 cents ...

Inside the categories alphabetically and titles always without prefixes/author tags.

Also everything looks very plain at the moment, so widgets are a good idea. Right now everyone is waiting for the "new marketplace", so there should be a certain wow effect and images are always good.

So just show the latest updates on the main page via their categories. Coincidentally, I'm currently reworking my downloads app and am a bit wondering how to do it. I don't have that many categories, of course.

Could contain: File, Webpage, Person, Page, Text

For the categories itself this would look fantastic https://www.sosinvision.com.br/index.php?/file/184-downloads-category-grid-view/
