This qualitative study explores the perspectives of community managers on knowledge co-creation within online communities for individuals with disabilities. Through semi-structured interviews and additional community data analysis, the study reveals that while peer-to-peer knowledge co-creation is encouraged, it remains uncommon, with professional and expert direction dominating co-creation efforts. The research highlights the potential of online communities as platforms for collaboration between patients, healthcare professionals, researchers, and businesses, but notes that interactions with external actors often remain one-sided. Despite this, community managers see value in these engagements, especially when they contribute to research and the development of products and services. The study calls for more active leveraging of online communities in the health care innovation process to better serve the needs of those with disabilities.
