This paper discusses the challenge of language barriers in the reuse of Open Educational Resources (OER) and explores crowdsourcing as a solution through a case study of the Open Translation Tools and Practices MOOC (OT12) run by the Department of Languages at the Open University UK. The MOOC aimed to engage participants with online open translation tools (Amara, Transifex, Google Translator Toolkit) to translate OER into multiple languages. Data from online surveys revealed insights into participants' backgrounds, motivations, and the outcomes of their involvement. The study suggests that MOOCs, as catalysts for conversation and network engagement, could play a significant role in advancing the openness agenda by leveraging crowdsourcing for translation.
