This panel discussion focuses on the challenges of managing behavior in online communities, where norms of appropriate behavior vary widely and can lead to conflict. It explores how designers of online systems define acceptable conduct, communicate expectations to members, prevent and manage deviant behavior, and balance corporate content control with free expression ideals. The panel includes experts from media theory, computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL), computer-supported cooperative work (CSCW), and online entertainment, who will discuss current issues in this multifaceted research area.
