This paper investigates the patterns of normative behavior violations, including hate speech and abusive language, among users of Stack Overflow (SO), a popular technical question-answer site. Despite its focus on technical problem-solving, the presence of toxic comments undermines community engagement and knowledge sharing. The study proposes strategies to quantify and analyze norm violations, including the development of a taxonomy of violated norms, implementation of sanctions for offenders, and the creation of a recommendation system to warn users of potential norm violations. By addressing these issues, the community aims to foster a healthier and more productive environment for knowledge sharing and collaboration.
