This paper investigates the effectiveness of Interaction Analysis in understanding the practice and development of Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) within Virtual Learning Communities (VLCs). By proposing a set of SRL indicators based on Zimmerman's model and applying them to the online messages of trainee teachers in a blended course, the study compares its findings with those of a previous study using traditional methods. The results indicate that Interaction Analysis is a viable, albeit labor-intensive, approach for studying SRL in online learning environments.
