This paper examines the collaborative sharing and construction of controversial scientific knowledge, specifically regarding the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccination, in online communities. Through content analysis of three different communities, the study explores how public perceptions, such as the myth associating MMR with autism, shape discussions and knowledge construction. It identifies the influence of community purposes, tasks, and participant demographics on the discourse and utilizes a framework of knowledge reuse and co-construction to analyze content and roles within these communities. The findings offer insights into the dynamics of online knowledge sharing and suggest directions for future research.
