This research delves into the pivotal, yet not widely examined, role of social media in promoting student mobility from India, with a particular focus on Facebook and WhatsApp communities created for prospective student migrants. Through ethnographic fieldwork, the study highlights how these online mutual-help groups offer crucial information and support for students planning to pursue postgraduate studies in Germany. These communities not only facilitate discussions about studying in Germany but also generate new resources and tools for navigating the migration process. The paper posits that such online groups democratize the access to overseas education by significantly broadening the social networks and social capital available to applicants. This study underscores the transformative impact of social media in making study abroad more accessible and manageable for aspirant student migrants.
