This systematic literature review examines in-service teachers' participation in online communities of practice (CoPs) for knowledge sharing and professional development. Recognizing the limitations of traditional formal methods like workshops, the study highlights the potential of informal CoP participation in addressing teachers' immediate needs and transforming their practice. Through a qualitative synthesis of seven peer-reviewed articles, the review identifies key themes related to teachers' engagement, shared knowledge, motivations, barriers, moderator roles, perceived benefits, and factors to consider in developing online platforms for teachers. The findings provide valuable insights for educational technology researchers, teachers, teacher associations, and platform moderators interested in fostering knowledge sharing within online CoPs for teacher professional development.
