This article introduces a computational approach to interpersonal stancetaking by analyzing 68 conversation threads from Reddit. It operationalizes three stance dimensions—affect, investment, and alignment—through annotations and investigates their linguistic properties and thread structure. The study identifies lexical features associated with each dimension and demonstrates that stancetaking properties can be predicted with moderate accuracy using bag-of-words features. The findings bridge computational and qualitative methods, enriching the understanding of how language shapes and reshapes relationships in online interactions.
