This study explores the relationship between language use and long-term community membership in an online forum, using computational modeling to analyze the linguistic behavior of users over several years. Findings reveal that long-time participants adopt community-specific jargon, a highly informal style, and show familiarity and emotional involvement in discussions. There is also evidence of a shift towards these language norms within the first year of participation, stabilizing after 8 or 9 months.
