This article examines strategies to enhance member attachment and participation in online communities, addressing issues of high turnover and under contribution. By applying social psychological theories, it explores two types of attachment: identity-based, where members connect with the community's purpose and group as a whole, and bond-based, where connections are formed with individual members. Through a six-month field experiment and a supplemental laboratory experiment, the study demonstrates that both identity-based and bond-based designs can increase member attachment and participation, with identity-based attachment proving more effective, especially among new members.
