This study explores the potential for freelancers on the global digital platform Upwork to develop solidarity within an online community, especially in response to a policy change that adversely affected their working conditions. Utilizing a mixed-methods research design, the analysis reveals how solidarity among gig workers tends to break down due to diverse interests and identities within the community. This research contributes to discussions on the challenges of fostering solidarity in the gig economy and the role of online communities in organizing gig workers against exploitative practices.
