This research delves into the impact of trolling on online community dynamics, specifically investigating how individuals respond to trolls within YouTube's video communities. Analyzing a longitudinal dataset, the study identifies several factors influencing user reactions to trolls, including the nature of the troll's message, the individual member's characteristics, and the community's history of engagement with trolls. Key findings suggest that well-connected members within closely-knit communities, who have previously interacted with trolls, are more inclined to respond, particularly to messages with negative sentiment.
