This paper examines Italian teenagers' engagement with the writing-oriented social network Wattpad, focusing on their participatory practices in authorship and readership. Through a mixed-method approach involving participatory workshops, interviews, and netnography among 103 Italian students, the study identifies various approaches to digital storytelling and the competences associated with these practices. The research highlights the transition from an "industry" to an "identity" oriented approach to authorship and outlines different types of social readership including fans, peers, and supporters. The findings underscore the significant role of such platforms in the identity and social development of teens, offering insights for integrating these practices into formal education.
