This research explores strategies to enhance user participation in online communities by leveraging social role theory, suggesting that encouraging highly committed users to assume administrator roles can boost their opinion leadership and contributions. Data from 1,115 users of a large online community supports the idea that such encouragement significantly increases contributions to both public and personal user-controlled spaces.
