This study explores the integration of online communities (OCs) in the innovation process, highlighting their potential as dynamic sources of information for foresight activities. It contrasts the static nature of traditional foresight methods with the dynamic characteristics of OCs, offering new insights into leveraging OCs for foresight. Through a literature review, a netnographic analysis of renewable energy OCs, and an in-depth examination of one community using a criteria catalog based on Popper's foresight diamond, the research demonstrates OCs' contribution to the dimensions of creativity, expertise, interaction, and evidence in foresight. A focus group interview confirms the value of OCs as a supplementary information source for foresight, underscoring the importance of the evidence dimension, which is further enriched by a text mining approach.
