https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2025/03/18/hamster-forum-local-residents-websites-shut-down-new-laws/ Britain’s Online Safety Act, a sprawling set of new internet laws, include measures to prevent children from seeing abusive content, age verification for adult websites, criminalising cyber-flashing and deepfakes, and cracking down on harmful misinformation. Under the illegal harms duties that came into force on Monday, sites must complete risk assessments detailing how they deal with illegal material and implement safety measures to deal with the risk. The Act allows Ofcom to fine websites £18m or 10pc of their turnover.

Hello. Hope somebody can help me out a bit. 🙂 I need to set up a IPS members' create/sync of those members who choose to receive community email newsletters - AllowAdminEmails - true setting if I'm correct to MailerLite/Omnisend newsletter platforms. But I fail to find anything that lets me to select this criteria on Zapier. All I get is to select a trigger event - Member edited. But there's no other settings to narrow this down to AddlowAdminEmails setting. Also how about when a member unsubscribes thru a newletter unsubscribe link which is then removes the subscriber on the newsletter plaform but does not sync back to forum? Can you shed any light how to set this up? Please point me to the right direction. 🙂 I've read about it here https://invisioncommunity.com/forums/topic/476251-newsletter-setting-for-zapier/

By the way: Friendly URLs need to be turned back on.

I'm going to make a bold claim and say that this topic has the most redactions in the history of IPS https://invisioncommunity.com/forums/topic/481831-you-forced-my-bill-from-80-a-year-to-200-a-year-wtf/ This topic has given me faith that forum drama is alive and well, and filled with fiery [REDACTED] 🤣 Also, ironically, the post has earned IPS several 5 star Trustpilot reviews so ... All's well that ends well?

I'm coming back to this discussion since I had to make a batch update of all member profiles: https://invisioncommunity.com/forums/topic/481725-changing-the-birthday-property-using-the-api-unable-to-find-the-right-syntax/ FYI, it took me more than 4 days to update a bit less than 5000 member profiles. However, it should have taken 2 hours or less... In an unpredictable way, a given API call which gives you a correct JSON response starts to generates a non HTML answer (like "ERROR CODE: xxxx") which is not documented. And it's impossible to now when the API call will work again. To be able to make some further API requests, I started to use worldwide free proxies (like a hacker to hack my own ICS instance🤣). At the end of the day, I added a "sleep 30m" in my code between each retry, and left my code run ... for 2 days.

Exactly. And who knows how long 100-year licenses really run at IPS in the end.

This is something that I struggle with. I may have done an amazing thing with my community. Maybe we hit a new milestone. Maybe we hit a major achievement. Maybe we've been quietly building one of the world's largest dictionaries contextualized for online communities: https://invisioneer.org/index.php?/cmxdictionary/ In my head, I have already acknowledged those milestones as another step in my community journey, so nothing more is needed. It's one of many achievements laying before me. But if it's not communicated out to the membership or to the public, is it worth anything? What does it matter if you hit that milestone if no one else acknowledges, celebrates, or shares in that success? Perception is everything. And if there is nothing to perceive because you're not communicating your wins, it's a lost opportunity to shape and share in your community story. People derive part of their self-concept from their membership in social groups. Celebrating shared wins strengthens the "we" feeling, reinforcing a positive social identity and bolstering a sense of belonging. Members feel more connected when they perceive the group as effective and successful, increasing their commitment and engagement. Even if you - as the community manager or forum admin - did all of the heavy lifting, letting members share a part of the win builds their tribal identity. The "norm of reciprocity" is a powerful social principle that dictates that people feel obligated to return favors and acts of kindness. Sharing successes and acknowledging contributions triggers this norm, prompting members to "pay it forward" by contributing their own time and expertise. This creates a positive cycle of prosocial behavior. Stories shape our understanding of ourselves and the world. By sharing stories of success, you provide members with a shared narrative that reinforces the community's values and goals. So go ahead. Post an extra term in our CMX Dictionary and help us build the world's largest database of dictionary terms for community management 😉. You'll feel better, I'll feel better, and all the other people who didn't do anything will also feel better because ultimately we all win.

Perpetual licenses that IPS phased out with v4
-
If I remember correctly, there have already been lifetime licenses.
-
Own time upfront payment of $2000 for a domain for 100 years which ... doesn't seem that bad, especially when you think about how much renewal costs have increased on domain names. https://www.searchenginejournal.com/wordpress-offers-new-100-year-domain-name-registrations/540195/ I'm waiting for IPS to offer the 100 year license, so we can have a forum to last as long as that domain. 😀

Hi, I miss the friendly number format app. It seems that is too hard to redo for the entire suite. Would anyone be willing to create a custom widget that would pull this info? https://invisioncommunity.com/forums/topic/481794-friendly-number-format/#findComment-2992016 Thanks

It looks like @Adriano Faria will be doing a Birthday Greet app. Is anyone willing to make a Welcome App? Thanks

+1 to everything you just typed. I cannot stand the trend of today where the extreme ends of centre go for blood at each other. Wasted energy and fuels unessential hate and division. I am for sensible debate, understand multiple angles then make an informal opinion.
