How will American teenagers waste time now?? 🤣 On a serious note, there's likely to be a migration of TikTok audience - and an opportunity for community owners to refocus - to other established platforms like Google Shorts, Instagram Reels, or Twitch. And if you're sooking to stay with a Chinese owned app, the apparent replacements are RedNote or Lemon8.

"Pixar uses a different tone and voice for each social network, which is a strategy that you don't see very often." https://futuresocial.beehiiv.com/p/pixar-social-media-strategy My thoughts: Nobody expects a community of one admin to be able to custom craft a different social media strategy per channel. However, Pixar did a per channel breakdown, which I thought was key and could help community managers pinpoint the channel they want. For example, if you're not targeting social trends or Gen Z, then skip TikTok.

https://futuresocial.beehiiv.com/p/inside-white-house-creator-economy-conference The White House Creator Economy Conference (WHCEC) was the first-ever event hosted by the White House's Office of Digital Strategy that convened a group of digital creators and industry professionals. Imagine creators and government officials discussing everything from mental health to AI and fair pay—all in the White House. One interesting point that came up was how the conference flipped the usual script. Instead of just listening to experts talk, the government was there to hear from creators directly. They wanted to understand our struggles, needs, and how they can support the…

This is fascinating: Our research shows that while people fast-forward or skip videos to avoid boredom, this behavior actually increases boredom,” Tam explained to CNN. A fear of missing out or looking for the next best thing is keeping us in unhealthy cycles. “Boredom is closely linked to our attention,” she continued. “We feel bored when there’s a gap between how engaged we are and how engaged we want to be. When people keep switching through videos, they’re not fully engaging with any one video, and are instead searching for something more interesting. https://www.fastcompany.com/91176971/tiktok-youtube-instagram-switching-boredom-worse-psychology-study

Between Facebook and X, which social platform do you think can be more beneficial for communities? The general rule of thumb is the platform where you have most followers will get you more traffic or even sign ups, but based on the conversion rate, which social site do you think would be better marketing platform for online communities? Facebook obviously has more users but does this mean you get higher conversion on Facebook compared to X?

The only social media platform that is close to online community is Reddit. Reddit is basically a discussion board where you can create sub Reddit on almost any topic, niche, or even site. Have you used Reddit to market your community. Were you able to get Reddit users to sign up in your community? Do you get traffic from Reddit?

Do you create video content for social media platforms? What kind of video content do you create? Do yo create long form videos or short form videos? Do you also make money from your videos? Well, I am basically not a video content creator but I have tried my hands on video content for various platforms. I mostly use short videos for marketing and advertising products and services.

Newsflash: Half of US adults are getting their news, at least sometimes, from social media, according to a new study of American news consumption habits from the Pew Research Center. Which social media, to be exact? According to the research, which surveyed 8,842 US adults between Sept. 25 and Oct. 1, Facebook—which has steadily deprioritized news content—is king, with three in 10 respondents saying they regularly get news from the platform. YouTube was also a major source for news, with around a quarter (26%) of respondents stating they regularly get news from the site. Instagram was next with 16%, while 14% of respondents said they regularly get news from Tik…

Elon Musk's Twitter takeover has come with a lot of changes, but his rebranding of the platform to "X" may be the final nail in the coffin of the once-beloved tech titan. Though Musk announced that Twitter would be renamed "X" on Jul. 23, it wasn't until Jul. 31 that the change to "X" went live on Apple's App Store. That change had an immediate effect on how many people download the app, according to an analysis from media strategist Eric Seufert. Seufert looked at Twitter/ X's ranking on the Apple App Store's "Top Downloaded" chart from Jul. 27 to Aug. 15 and found that the app's average ranking fell significantly after the rebranding, from 35 to 54. …

Looking to get into YouTube Shorts and build a Shorts presence for yourself or your brand? You should probably consider it. Shorts is the fastest-growing content type on YouTube, and is now driving over 50 billion daily views in the app. Built in the mold of TikTok, Shorts leans into the growing trend towards more succinct, attention-grabbing clips, and it could be a valuable pathway towards increased brand awareness and perception. If you can create good Shorts content. This will help. There are multiple options to build communities, you can build communities through software like Invision or Wordpress, or even social media sites. You can create Facebook Groups, Discord Servers, Whatsapp Group, etc.and build communities through social media platforms. One major drawbacks of social media communities is you do not own it, you are under the mercy of social media companies. Having said that it is easier to build communities on social media platforms compared to other community software.

BeReal is trying to be real. And if we’re being real, what’s the point of that Discovery feed, anyway? The once-a-day, spontaneous photo-sharing app BeReal differentiates itself from other social apps by inviting us to connect with our friends, not a wider audience. There’s no such thing as a BeReal influencer or celebrity, and there’s no way to tell how many friends someone else has on BeReal. Yet for some reason, the platform has always dedicated serious in-app real estate to a Discovery feed, where you can see what random people you aren’t friends with are doing (so long as they opt to make their posts public). Now, BeReal is replacing Discovery with a Friend…

Some things that I personally found interesting about BlueSky in my onboarding: Content moderation is in the hands of the user: you can choose in your Moderation settings what you want for content filtering. Do you want to see hate group iconography, or do you want to be warned? Do you want to see spam, or show all spam? (What I didn't see, however, is who defines hate group iconography and what that covers) Discovery is in the hands of the user: during the onboarding, I was asked to select one or several types of discovery feeds. Some are reasonable and default such as Following and Discover, but you can also choose more unique feeds such as Quie…

The social media boom of the last decade is over. It’s not that people are no longer using social media — they are. They’re just using it less, and engaging differently." "In 2022, the average daily time spent on social media declined globally leading to a drop in organic reach for brands and creators. Per GWI, 54% of people use social media to connect with friends and family, and 27% of people use social media to keep up with news. What they aren’t necessarily hopping on social media to do is be sold to. However, social media platforms need users to spend as much time on their apps as possible and to continue buying from advertisers in order to remain pro…

2024 Social Media predictions by Future Social: YouTube Shorts become a key channel for brand social teams. Those Reels & TikToks you’re making can go right up on YouTube Shorts, bringing more attention to that channel that’s only hosted your TV spots the last few years. Watch Shorts become quite effective in driving brand awareness without much customization time from brand teams. Watch time becomes a primary metric. We know we can’t win in 2024 social without video content, but we haven’t really adjusted our analytics for that shift. Rather than reporting likes and comments front and center, watch for watch time to be the new proof of engaged audiences. An…

Many people love posting on social media, and you can get hooked on only posting on social media with its viral reach and attention-fueled algorithms. But how does it integrate into your longer-term mindset? When do you post (first or last) to social media? Posting First - Social media can be a great springboard for your shortform content. It's quick and it's easy, but its reach is limited to only the social media since you can't integrate or link to your other indepth content since they're not created yet. Posting Last - Social media is the end of a very intentional strategy. This requires more thought with a prior creation of short and …

A landmark study of how Facebook shaped the news users saw in the run-up to the 2020 election has found the platform resulted in “significant ideological segregation” in regard to political news exposure — specifically with conservative users who researchers found were more walled off and encountered far more misinformation than their liberal counterparts. Looking at aggregated data from 208 million U.S. users, researchers found “untrustworthy” news sources were favored by conservative audiences and almost all (97%) of the political news webpages rated as false by Meta’s third-party fact-checkers were seen by more conservatives than liberals. Overall, the resea…
