Did the site get restored or lose some content? I seem to be missing some content as if the site reset to a couple days ago? Links to messages are resulting in a 404 for example…

2 weeks of content is missing ... great,

this site is self hosted or Invision Cloud?

also, registration doesn't work, I can't receive a confirmation email

Yes, looks like some of my posts are gone too.

[edit] Even my signature has changed back.

Okay, thanks for confirming I wasn’t going crazy.

For any Providers who are looking to update or add new files in bulk to the Marketplace Directory (whether due to this server move or in general), you are welcome to start a message with me.  I am happy to help you.

I referenced the reason in my announcement topic but it came down to cost.  It is so much cheaper to self host, and given that Invisioneer is a site that's offered for free and I want to make this sustainable for several years, I needed to lower my ongoing costs as much as possible.

For full disclosure, last year IPS did give me a courtesy upgrade to one higher tier than what I was paying for on the cloud, for which I'm thankful.  But ultimately, I can lower the ongoing expenses (not just a little, but a lot) and make sure Invisioneer keeps going for several years.

And it was not possible to get a current backup from IPS, so that the content and the newly registered members of, if I understood correctly, several weeks were lost?

It was possible, I just didn't ask

I have a server admin who conducted the server move, and he was extremely delayed in doing the work.  So even though I requested and prepped him in advance of the server move, he didn't actually do it until 3 weeks later.

We moved to a VPS 🙂

nowadays every hosting provides daily backups up to a few days back,

so if the missing contents are the fault of the administrator who was ignoring the task assigned to him it is his fault and he should be held accountable, it is an unacceptable situation and shows IPS Cloud in a very bad light.

It had nothing to do with IPS Cloud, they provided the backup on the day I requested it.  It was the server admin (and candidly myself) who should have requested another more recent server backup when I realized it wasn't going to be immediate, I had no idea it was going to take as long as it did.
