What are your limits on 'free speech'?

If you follow the news, one of the biggest and most consequential changes to the entire globe is the election of President Trump in America.  And even if you live in another country, his election will likely have ramifications.  Over the weekedn, the United States VP JD Vance criticized Europe for censoring social media, interfering in elections and violating the rights of Christians.

One of the biggest ones for tech companies and social media platforms - which is already happening for US tech companies - is a loosening of free speech. On one hand, it's an impossible task for social media platforms to monitor and be the arbiter for 

What are your limits on free speech?  For example,

• What if members express support for far-right stances such as anti-immigration?  
• What if members express support for freedom from vaccinations, or that Covid was a hoax?  
• What if members express support for kicking out certain members for not being of a certain religion, color, or belief?

The way these questions are phrased and the topics chosen as potentially divisive clearly tell me you're on the left-wing end of the spectrum. That's not intended as a dig, merely an observation; everyone is entitled to their own thoughts and opinions. That's actually what the whole free speech movement is about. Everyone should have a say, not only those of a certain viewpoint.

For many years, we've lived in a "cancel culture" where people felt like they were walking on eggshells and weren't free to express themselves. With the recent US election, most people made their discontent with divisiveness and censorship heard. We're tired of the political correctness and eggshells. We crave honesty, truth, and freedom and are done with the thought police.

I believe this is truly a good thing. We need open dialog with tolerance and diversity of ideas and viewpoints.

There are common-sense limits, of course. On my community, I would never allow posts that advocate abuse, violence, obscenity, or bullying. However, I believe most topics can be discussed if the tone and intentions are respectful. It really is a matter of tone, respect, and keeping an open mind.

I cannot stand the trend of today where the extreme ends of centre go for blood at each other. Wasted energy and fuels unessential hate and division. 

I am for sensible debate, understand multiple angles then make an informal opinion.
