This study examines critical thinking indicators in students' postings on asynchronous online discussion forums at Arab Open University, Jordan. Utilizing Garrisons' (2001) and Newman's (1995) models, the analysis of nineteen students' contributions revealed that while they demonstrated indicators like relevance and importance, there is a need for improvement in justification and critical assessment skills. Participants were able to identify and explore problems but required support to evaluate and integrate solutions into their existing knowledge. The findings suggest that while essential critical thinking skills are present, a focus on higher-order skills is necessary. The study calls for further research across various courses and emphasizes the need for instructor training to create tasks that promote advanced thinking.
