This mixed methods study investigates the perceptions of 32 Iranian pre-service teachers regarding their experiences in online asynchronous discussion forums during two introductory courses in corpus linguistics. Data from questionnaires, forum entries, and interviews indicate that while participants engaged in discussions to share attitudes and beliefs, they were reluctant to express emotions, critique peers, or reference sources. The findings suggest that students prioritize meaningful learning outcomes over social interaction, offering insights for online instructors in postgraduate education.
