This paper examines news discussion forums as vernacular public discourse and a communicative genre in the digital age. It defines these forums based on user reasoning from private perspectives, lack of legitimation, and hybrid public participation. The forums initiate from news articles and feature unique characteristics compared to other social media discussions, with users rarely citing specific sources.
