This study addresses expert identification in online forums, crucial for enhancing knowledge sharing. It critiques existing techniques, particularly the limitations of content-based and link-based approaches. The authors propose a novel expert identification method, ExpRank, which builds on PageRank by incorporating opinion ratings and both positive and negative agreement relations among forum members. Empirical results from two datasets (books and music) from Epinions.com demonstrate that ExpRank outperforms PageRank, particularly benefiting from the inclusion of negative relations.
