Zimmerman's (2000) Empowerment Theory provides a framework for understanding how individuals and communities can build their own capacity to address social and health problems. The theory identifies three levels of analysis: individual, organizational, and community. At the individual level, empowerment involves building a sense of self-efficacy and self-esteem. At the organizational level, empowerment involves creating supportive work environments that foster growth and development. At the community level, empowerment involves creating social and political structures that allow individuals and groups to take control of their own lives and make decisions that affect their well-being.
