  • Dependent variable

In scientific research, the dependent variable is the variable that is being measured or observed to assess the impact of changes in the independent variable. It represents the outcome or response that researchers are interested in studying. The dependent variable is expected to change in response to the manipulation of the independent variable, allowing researchers to analyze the cause-and-effect relationship between the variables.

In the context of an online community, the dependent variable could be the engagement level of community members, such as the number of posts, comments, or interactions within the community. Researchers might be interested in studying the effects of different interventions or community management strategies (independent variables) on the level of engagement (dependent variable). By measuring and analyzing the dependent variable, community administrators can gain insights into the effectiveness of various approaches and make informed decisions to enhance community participation and interaction.
