I have seen many people come and go over the years. I have used Invision since its very early days, and even Ikon Board. I always dreamt of having an active community, a social hub where people could support each other and discuss topics they were passionate about. My first site had many problems, and I carry much of the responsibility because I should have done better. It was a huge learning curve, but knowing I was making a difference and bringing enjoyment to others motivated me to persist despite my mistakes. Those early days now feel surreal. I managed to build a thriving community with over 1,000 members and more than 1,000,000 topics. I had no budget to w…

I'm going to make a bold claim and say that this topic has the most redactions in the history of IPS https://invisioncommunity.com/forums/topic/481831-you-forced-my-bill-from-80-a-year-to-200-a-year-wtf/ This topic has given me faith that forum drama is alive and well, and filled with fiery [REDACTED] 🤣 Also, ironically, the post has earned IPS several 5 star Trustpilot reviews so ... All's well that ends well?

Hello, I got a client who wants to relaunch his old forum which was online since early 2000s and was online until around 2021 and then it all went offline. The original domain was lost to squatters and is unrecoverable. However the domain is blank and all indexed content from search engines has been dropped. Client thinks about migrating to IPS and relaunching it on another domain (which at the time of speaking is already 1.5 years old). The forum has around 300k posts and 15k topics. So I don't think it would be a good idea to just one day drop the forum online and probably overwhelm and then watch Google ignore it.. I have no experience in such situations myself so…

https://invisioncommunity.com/forums/topic/482262-forums-is-warning-that-feature-we-use-q-a-is-depreciated-but-not-signposting-any-upgrade-path/ One of the most common support scenarios in online communities recently played out in the Invision Community support forums. A user posted a question about upgrading from Invision Community v4 to v5—something that’s been asked multiple times before and, without a doubt, will be asked again. The user was directed to the forums for answers, where after a few hours and several exchanges, they got the information they needed. Case closed, right? Not quite. This situation highlights a crucial inflection point in communi…

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2025/03/18/hamster-forum-local-residents-websites-shut-down-new-laws/ Britain’s Online Safety Act, a sprawling set of new internet laws, include measures to prevent children from seeing abusive content, age verification for adult websites, criminalising cyber-flashing and deepfakes, and cracking down on harmful misinformation. Under the illegal harms duties that came into force on Monday, sites must complete risk assessments detailing how they deal with illegal material and implement safety measures to deal with the risk. The Act allows Ofcom to fine websites £18m or 10pc of their turnover.

Hello. Hope somebody can help me out a bit. 🙂 I need to set up a IPS members' create/sync of those members who choose to receive community email newsletters - AllowAdminEmails - true setting if I'm correct to MailerLite/Omnisend newsletter platforms. But I fail to find anything that lets me to select this criteria on Zapier. All I get is to select a trigger event - Member edited. But there's no other settings to narrow this down to AddlowAdminEmails setting. Also how about when a member unsubscribes thru a newletter unsubscribe link which is then removes the subscriber on the newsletter plaform but does not sync back to forum? Can you shed any light ho…

IPS has been positioning cloud as its primary set of options for several years now. There are different tiers of cloud, with more features on higher tier. The pricing page prioritizes cloud (and makes it difficult to find self hosted / on premise option). Are you already on cloud?

Own time upfront payment of $2000 for a domain for 100 years which ... doesn't seem that bad, especially when you think about how much renewal costs have increased on domain names. https://www.searchenginejournal.com/wordpress-offers-new-100-year-domain-name-registrations/540195/ I'm waiting for IPS to offer the 100 year license, so we can have a forum to last as long as that domain. 😀

This is something that I struggle with. I may have done an amazing thing with my community. Maybe we hit a new milestone. Maybe we hit a major achievement. Maybe we've been quietly building one of the world's largest dictionaries contextualized for online communities: https://invisioneer.org/index.php?/cmxdictionary/ In my head, I have already acknowledged those milestones as another step in my community journey, so nothing more is needed. It's one of many achievements laying before me. But if it's not communicated out to the membership or to the public, is it worth anything? What does it matter if you hit that milestone if no one else acknowledges, celebrates, …

Hi, I miss the friendly number format app. It seems that is too hard to redo for the entire suite. Would anyone be willing to create a custom widget that would pull this info? https://invisioncommunity.com/forums/topic/481794-friendly-number-format/#findComment-2992016 Thanks

As a developer on this platform, I want to know your opinions of the members of this platform. Are you willing to buy new 3rd-party apps? Considering that quality apps/themes are produced that really improve your community and meet your needs. Before the market was closed, I had a big plan to develop each part of this platform. I also decided to produce new things needed by every community. For example, LMS has been completed and is being developed, as well as other apps that I don't know if I should start. Are you waiting for version 5 to think about 3rd-party apps? Would you consider them if new apps are released for version 4.*?

If you follow the news, one of the biggest and most consequential changes to the entire globe is the election of President Trump in America. And even if you live in another country, his election will likely have ramifications. Over the weekedn, the United States VP JD Vance criticized Europe for censoring social media, interfering in elections and violating the rights of Christians. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2025/2/14/vance-slams-europe-on-free-speech-migration-in-first-international-speech One of the biggest ones for tech companies and social media platforms - which is already happening for US tech companies - is a loosening of free speech. On one …

Valentine's Day is coming up this weekend, which is a perfect excuse to host a "Love Your Members" theme, contest, or event. There are plenty of fun celebrations throughout the year, anchored by big seasonal ones such as Valentine's and Christmas. These are "easy" themes. The dates and context behind these holidays are well-known, well-understood, and easily adoptable. But it's also heavily overused and generic. Every forum tries to do a Christmas thing. Every forum tries to do a Valentine's thing. When your credit card company tries to send you a Christmas celebratory introductory rate on a new credit card, you know the holiday has become a bit overdone…

BuzzFeed announced that it's creating its own social media platform called BFisland to "spread joy." The new platform will focus on positive content, interactive storytelling, and self-expression using AI tools. Although details are unclear, the platform will be designed to improve online connections. https://techcrunch.com/2025/02/11/buzzfeed-is-taking-on-instagram-tiktok-x-with-a-new-social-platform-designed-to-spread-joy/

https://invisioncommunity.com/forums/topic/481595-support-tickets-v4-to-v5/ Matt proposed a replacement of private forums for support tickets, where users can only see their own topics. This seems to be a very easy and simple replacement, and it uses existing capabilities in the forum.

Everybody talks about community management. But I actually think that the #1 component of success behind your community management - and this is especially targeted at independent sites, hobbyists, and solopreneurs - is self management. What I mean by this is that, before you can run your community and spend time on your community, you need to make sure you manage yourself. Literally, how well do you manage your 'real world' life before you try to manage your 'digital life'? Do you have a stable job that can pay the bills, and have a little extra to pay for your forum hobby? Do you have a strong set of real world friends, social connections, and networking…

How will American teenagers waste time now?? 🤣 On a serious note, there's likely to be a migration of TikTok audience - and an opportunity for community owners to refocus - to other established platforms like Google Shorts, Instagram Reels, or Twitch. And if you're sooking to stay with a Chinese owned app, the apparent replacements are RedNote or Lemon8.

"Pixar uses a different tone and voice for each social network, which is a strategy that you don't see very often." https://futuresocial.beehiiv.com/p/pixar-social-media-strategy My thoughts: Nobody expects a community of one admin to be able to custom craft a different social media strategy per channel. However, Pixar did a per channel breakdown, which I thought was key and could help community managers pinpoint the channel they want. For example, if you're not targeting social trends or Gen Z, then skip TikTok.

IPS is introducing the new TipTap editor with Invision Community 5, and it includes several near features like colored boxes along with standard rich text options. Do you create elaborate posts with rich formatting, such as for articles? Do you post other unusual items like math formulas, tables, embeds?
